Including the well-known ship name "Nautilus" in his moniker, Nemo founded his own music project in May 2008. It was concepted as an open music world, and therefore a constructive project without limitations, always ready to be changed - although he continued with further dubtechno experiments since everything started with free releases on several netlabels, such as Arteqcue, Insectorama and U-Cover. But over time the music was achieving some kind of deeper status and become more professional, so that the french netlabel "ZeECc" expressed some explicit interest for a release. From then on, one thing led to another. It resulted in the very first own CD on that young label.

It was time to step out of the shadows, taking place within the international netaudio scene, which was still riding on a dubtechno wave, even if the main phase of the famous Basic Channel underground movement was over. Kyoto_Digital was dead and Thinner in its last breaths, but all those influences shaped and formed the music project since its very first day. At that time, oceanic themes have been in the foreground, it was all about those flowing, constantly moving sounds in the territory of spacious music.

Even though he used the aspects of dub and techno, "Backdrift To Sea" can't be categorized that way. It was - and still is - the expression of something inbetween of all that, focusing on the materialization of different ideas, and it was only with the following album "Operations", where he composed a serious dubtechno release. It was all about finding out where to go for the next time.

More of that, there hadn't been any indications about the change of a new direction at that point and that all further oceanic themes won't be expressed immediately again. There was only a very vague sign how the project could be changed, but after the follower album "Operations", the whole project started to range between nautical themes, atmospheric nature based excursions and postmodern sci-fi-world explorations. Along the way, Nemo gained much inspiration from the involvement in numerous collaborative projects, which added some more viewpoints and ideas.

For this first physical product, now re-released digitally on Bandcamp, we have a well-sorted selection of the best remixers one can have, starting with the incredible Fluxion (Chain Reaction, Echocord) and the famous Marko Fürstenberg (Ornaments, a.r.t.less), followed by Christian Dittmann (Thinner, Rrygular) and Xoki (Kyoto_digital), finished by Liquid Level (Entropy) - all of them reinterprating the well-known track of "20000 Miles Below", the first meaningful composition for which the project has become famous for.

Due to the sudden closure of the ZeECc label, the album has been re-released in a reduced version including all the Nautilus Project tracks.
